Deployments.
2003.
The work Deployments consists of large sculptures whose form is derived from the architecture typology of defense. In fact, the piece takes as its starting point the architectonical schemes developed by state entities, such as the police and the army, to address the insecurity upsurge in the country and to counteract subversive actions within the national territory. The sculptures that make up the work take over the space and explore, through their solid and concrete design, the logic of confrontation and defense on which the military and prison spaces are based. In other words, they analyze and emulate a series of institutional architectural constructions that highlight the need for protection and reaction. In this way, the piece explores the growing militarization in the country, while recognizing and accepting that the dispute and control of territory is one of the main characteristics of the conflict in Colombia.
