Holy Field.
Photographic Series
Holy Field is composed of images taken in Alto de las cruces, a rural area on the outskirts of Bogotá. The site contains countless crosses made by local residents as a meditative and intimate response to the death of close relatives. These have been crafted from humble materials such as branches, sticks, flowers, and twigs. The symbols are built and placed on the land, creating images that reflect on the meaning of the cross, death and life. They also reflect on the spiritual relationship established between the trace of the absent and the pristine natural surroundings. Each of the signs portrayed is a private and intimate gesture that, although not representing a cemetery nor an altar, carries a strong contextual weight within the Colombian social scenery. For this reason, the photographs have the capacity to move the viewer emotionally, inviting them to share the feeling of finitude and fragility.
