Dizzying Domains revolves around the documentation and analysis of the massive wooden structure that was once the largest roller coaster in the state of Florida. The project combines a collection of large-format photographs with a site-specific installation that explores the underlying logics behind society’s insatiable pursuit of thrill and speed in contemporary life.

The roller coaster’s abandonment serves as a constant reminder of the obsolescence of spectacle architecture, structures erected to satisfy a dizzying demand for alienating and solipsistic entertainment, at the expense of a stable form of dwelling that now appears to be in crisis.

This is a two part project:

- Installation: Dizzying Domains.
- Photographic Series: The Hurricane

The Hurricane is a photographic series that documents and analyzes the massive wooden structure of the largest roller coaster in the state of Florida. The work explores the typology of entertainment architecture, designed to deliver sensations filled with emotion and vertigo as a strategy to escape reality. To achieve this, the monumental wooden structure lifts off from the ground and provides, through the experience of the fall, desired states of exaltation. The images, taken at sunset or at night, emphasize the fictional and theatrical nature of the culture of the spectacle. In them, the context is abstracted and the construction proposes a spatial and temporal escape.
